The early music ensemble “Canto Fiorito”, which has brought together talented musicians, is organizing a unique event at the National Philharmonic – the premiere of a Baroque masterpiece in modern times!
Giovanni Paolo Colonna (1637–1695) was one of the most prominent Italian composers of the Baroque era – a famous teacher, organist, and organ builder. He is a pioneer of the “missa concertata” style, combining the grandeur of the mass with the rich sound of a string orchestra. His most ambitious work – “Missa a più cori con più cori di stromenti”, written for string orchestra and three choirs – is a magnificent monument of Baroque sacred music. Surprisingly, this masterpiece has not yet been performed in modern times. In the context of the project initiated by “Canto Fiorito”, the first modern edition of the score for this work has been prepared, and it will be made available to early music professionals worldwide on the ensemble's website. In collaboration with Lithuanian soloists and the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, “Canto Fiorito” presents the long-awaited modern world premiere of this work, which will take place in the Grand Hall of the National Philharmonic and the Klaipėda Concert Hall. This is a significant contribution to the discovery and actualization of early music.
Organizer – VšĮ “Canto Fiorito”, partner – Lithuanian National Philharmonic The project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture, Klaipėda Concert Hall, and Vilnius City Municipality
