About this event

The renowned Hungarian jazz duo "Voice and Bass" – Ágnes Lakatos and Tibor Csuhaj-Barna – is coming to the Music Magic Club. Both performers are long-time lecturers at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, possessing vast stage and creative experience.

Ágnes is a Doctor of Arts and a prominent jazz vocalist who won a gold medal at the world's largest vocal music festival and competition, "Cantata Mondial." Tibor is one of Hungary's most famous double bassists, having performed in Europe, the USA, Israel, and Asia for over three decades, while also composing and arranging music.

This evening is both a concert and an opportunity to get to know these interesting performers more closely. Between pieces, Ágnes and Tibor will talk about their work, and the program will feature original compositions from their new duo album, jazz standards, and songs specially arranged for this ensemble.

Ágnes Lakatos is a Hungarian jazz vocalist, educator, and associate professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, actively performing on stage since the late 1980s. She holds a Doctor of Liberal Arts (DLA) degree, received a Fulbright scholarship in Chicago in 2023, and was awarded a gold medal at the world's largest vocal music festival and competition, "Cantata Mondial," in 2004. Lakatos has conducted masterclasses and given lectures at music academies and conservatories in Germany, Italy, Estonia, Israel, and the USA, and has performed in many European countries, Israel, and the USA. Alongside her solo career, she has led the "Jazz Voices" choir since 2000 and has received significant awards for her pedagogical work.

Tibor Csuhaj-Barna is a Hungarian jazz double bassist, composer, arranger, and associate professor at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, where he has been teaching double bass since 2008. Over more than three decades on stage, he has played with numerous Hungarian jazz ensembles, composed and arranged music for various formations, and his discography includes a long list of albums and original compositions. Csuhaj-Barna's concert geography is particularly broad: from many European festivals to tours in Asia, the USA, and Israel. He is also invited to teach and conduct masterclasses at foreign music academies and conservatories, including those in Jerusalem, Rome, and Hangzhou. In 2018, he became a Doctor of Arts, and in 2024, he completed his habilitation.
