In the play, which is intended for children from five years old, young viewers get acquainted with a real mafia, or rather... a wild gang of cats. They are like prototypes of characters from the most famous mafia films, living according to their own rules and codes, each with their own status and duties. And most importantly – none of them lacks a sense of humor.
At first glance, in an ordinary apartment building courtyard, by a high brick wall, completely incredible things are happening: a gang of fat, lazy, "mafia-spoiled" cats finds a young seagull, and suddenly their whole life turns upside down. How to behave when encountering a foreign, unknown environment? Should one change and adapt to a different way of life, or try to change others? Or perhaps strive for everyone to have the opportunity to remain unique and individual?
"The more you give, the more you take for yourself – that is the main idea of the play 'Mama katinas'. After all, that group of cats living in one city courtyard is like our society – closed, a bit too self-satisfied, living a somewhat gray, everyday life. And one day, this routine is shattered by a completely unexpected impulse from elsewhere – a seagull chick, seemingly symbolizing a different flight, different goals,” says director Evaldas Jaras.
