A one-act playfully extravagant comedy-fairy tale
"Fantasio" is a 19th-century play that the author himself called a comedy that ends badly, or a drama with a happy ending. This work by the French classic resonates in a highly contemporary way on the VMT stage: the creative team looks at the content of the play through the eyes of today's young person, seeking a creative relationship with the specific language of the work.

The work begins with the death of the kingdom's jester, while at the same time a wedding feast is being held in an attempt to avoid war with another kingdom. Rejected and pursued by creditors, Fantasio accidentally becomes the king's jester, thus changing the fate of the kingdom itself. The plot of "Fantasio" resembles a fairy tale: a princess must marry a prince assigned to her, but she meets Fantasio – a charming, yet poor and common townsman. However, beneath this fabulous surface lie universal human truths and timeless wisdom.
Fantasio is a wanderer who cannot and does not want to belong to the "norm," who will always be "not like that": non-conforming, rejected, undervalued, misunderstood, different. He is a jester whose thoughts one might laugh at, but which get stuck and "settle" in one's head. Fantasio struggles between contradictions: love and its denial, cynicism and sentimentality. He is, as his name suggests, something that does not exist, a certain fiction that stirs up established, stagnant lives. The characters in the play dress up, change roles, and constantly find themselves in situations of comic misunderstandings.
The play features live music performed by the band "Kabloonak," complemented by arrangements by composer Giedrius Puskunigis.
