An emotional and masterful three-part performance
Anton Chekhov's "Uncle Vanya" is one of the most emotional plays in theatre, revealing with strong artistic power the very essence of human life, greatest desires, and bitterest disappointments. In this work about wasted lives, which the author himself called "scenes from country life in four acts," various genres are intertwined – comedy, drama, and tragedy.

In the Vilnius Small Theatre performance, there is even more: the celebration of life will erupt like deafening fireworks, while the ache of rejected love, unfulfilled hopes, and dreams will choke the throat.
Slovenian director Tomi Janežič, who is creating the performance with an international team, is a connoisseur of Chekhovian dramaturgy, constantly returning to these plays that so masterfully combine the absurd and the truth of life. Throughout Europe, this creator is known as a talented artist who creates highly emotionally impactful and intellectually stimulating performances.
T. Janežič's works stand out for their original directorial interpretations, although he could never be labeled with the traditional term "director-stager." Rather, he is a true experimenter and an attentive researcher of human nature. For him, the most important thing is not to stage a performance, but to establish a connection with a person: the actor, the entire creative team, and finally, the audience. While rehearsing, the director, who in addition to his artistic education is also a qualified psychodrama therapist, uses this psychodrama method to focus the actors, thus creating a safe environment to open up and create.
"Today, it is more important than ever to stage 'Uncle Vanya' for another reason as well – the extremely widespread ideology of success. We only talk about achievements, being happy, success, goals reached... The pressure is so great. This play – 'Uncle Vanya' – shows the opposite situation. We can experience failure, but accept it as a normal thing. Also showing that the ideology of success and winning is simply too artificial," says director Tomi Janežič.
