The work was taken on by German director Christian Weise, a talented researcher of bourgeois lifestyle. Like many of T. Williams' works, this one contains the painful experiences of the author himself – alcoholism, homosexual nature, and the attempt to establish oneself and function in society.
The work takes us to the conservative environment of the US Southern states and focuses on a closed space – a cotton plantation, where the owner, Big Daddy, is celebrating his birthday. Big Daddy is terminally ill, but he does not know it yet. A struggle for the inheritance begins among his descendants. His son Gooper, with his wife Mae and spoiled children, plays the part of a happy family and is therefore worthy of the inheritance.
Meanwhile, the other son, Brick, has already withdrawn from the competition for Big Daddy's pot of gold. His wife Maggie tries to persuade him otherwise, but alcoholism and his hidden love for his former teammate, Skipper, force Brick to give up. However, Maggie is the persistent "cat on a hot tin roof," and on top of that, there is Big Daddy's own affection for his fallen son.
