Traditionally, during the All Souls' Day period, we implement the "A Candle on a Forgotten Grave" campaign together with Vilnius students. The goal of this campaign is to tidy up the surroundings of the Beglobių kalnelis (Hill of the Forgotten) at Karveliškės Cemetery, honor the deceased with the flames of candles, and learn about All Souls' Day traditions.
This campaign has been taking place since 2005, when, at the initiative of the Vilnius Ethnic Culture Centre, crosses and a wayside shrine were erected and consecrated on the Hill of the Forgotten to commemorate those laid to rest there. Every year, students and teachers from different Vilnius schools participate in the campaign, meticulously cleaning the hill and honoring the unattended departed with candle flames, prayers, or quiet reflection.
This year, students from the Vilnius "Sietuva" Progymnasium will dedicate their time to the Hill of the Forgotten.
The campaign is supported and provided with candles by UAB "Geralda".
Those who wish to contribute to this campaign and be together are invited to contact us in advance via email at [email protected]
