Animals and Lives – a concert and poetic play for children by Teatro P.
Actors Balys Ivanauskas and Artūras Dubaka, using poems by Lithuanian writers Sigitas Geda, Anzelmas Matutis, Marius Marcinkevičius, Alma Karosaitė, and Justinas Marcinkevičius, along with their own childhood stories, have created a concert-play that dives into a world of dreams while telling real and imagined tales. Here, as they go about their days, rabbits, cows, and kings experience adventures and (how unexpected) tricky problems that need to be solved right here and now. But will they succeed?
Theatre critic Dovilė Zaveckaitė on this play:
"The poetic-musical event for children 'Evening G – Animals and Lives' by actors Balys Ivanauskas and Artūras Dubaka, as is typical for their 'Teatro P', surprises with its ability to interest modern children in poetry. The stories and fun of animals and lives are created from the poems of Sigitas Geda, Anzelmas Matutis, Marius Marcinkevičius, Alma Karosaitė, Justinas Marcinkevičius, and their own childhood stories. For example, from a dream about an aunt and a devil that was prophetic, or from a dream about a white horse running for hours and hours, which ran, and ran, and ran, and if anyone didn't quite understand yet – that horse just kept running, the whole time it just kept running, and it was so very interesting! The vitality and enthusiasm of these two actors regarding poetry, fresh cabbage and cauliflower, or their connection with children is engaging and enviable. But most importantly – they never lose their relationship with the word for a single moment; the word is the most interesting thing to them. I would venture to guess that these actors believe in the mystical creative power of the word – you speak a word, and a world is created. 'Evening G – Animals and Lives' truly creates on stage what lives quietly, modestly, and secretly in poems: all those little horses that sprouted in the garden, all those fire-creating fish, and silent cows."
