About this event

2026 11 11 | 7–8 PM Menų spaustuvė

The international hip-hop dance and culture festival Urban Essentials 2026 invites you to the festival opening – a double-bill evening.

The festive event will be colored by the solo performance "IT AM" by Amir Zakirov from Kazakhstan and the debut solo dance piece "LIMBO" by Italian-French choreographer Suzanne Degennaro, arriving in Vilnius after its world premiere in France.

LIMBO | Suzanne Degennaro (Italy / France)

Somewhere between inner intoxication and physical manifestation, "LIMBO" explores the state of uncertainty, being in-between: neither departing nor arriving, but a hazy zone where one lives in doubt. Inspired by the waacking dance style, which originated in the Los Angeles queer club "Le Ginos II," Suzanne Degennaro embodies this inner space where celebration, melancholy, and resistance coexist.

Through an extravagant yet seemingly frozen-in-time dance, "LIMBO" reveals the experience of intersex people, a fragmented relationship with gender, the feeling of living in discord with oneself, and the state of a drifting generation – waiting for something that never happens. Inspired by "liminal spaces" – empty yet familiar places that occupy an important role in the post-internet imagination, this solo piece develops an aesthetic of gentle discomfort, loneliness, and endless waiting.

"LIMBO" is a silent scream, a party in a transitional state, an attempt to dance what cannot be expressed in words. With this debut solo, Suzanne Degennaro presents an introspective and direct choreographic work exploring identity in a changing, post-contemporary uncertainty. It is a dance about being on the edge, confusion, and untamed beauty.

Suzanne Degennaro

Suzanne Degennaro is an Italian-French dancer and choreographer based in Paris. In her work, she explores the boundaries of merged identity, gender, and body memory. Her artistic language is formed at the intersection of waacking – an expressive and strictly codified dance style – and sensitive, autobiographical movement exploration. The practice of waacking helped Suzanne reconnect with her personal history and became a tool for liberation, a language of survival, and a poetics of rebellion.

Alongside her choreographic explorations, Suzanne dances in several French companies – including with Josepha Madoki and Mounia Nassangar – and at the Paris Opera, in Gounod's opera "Romeo and Juliet." In 2024, she also contributed to the creation of Saïd Lehlouh's performance "Apaches Opéra" and later joined the creative process of the performance "Témoin."
