The exhibition presents the work of 33 artists and collectives. They are all united by the Kharkiv School of Photography – a community of four generations that chose photography as their primary creative medium. From the times of Soviet censorship to Ukraine's independence, revolutions, and Russian military aggression, representatives of this school have consistently pushed the boundaries of photography, using it for sharp social and aesthetic critique. Through several hundred exhibits – photographs, videos, and archival objects – the exhibition unfolds six decades of rebellious and experimental Kharkiv photography, the continuity of methods and ideas, the most prominent artists, and their most striking works.
