A key figure in trip-hop and a cult British producer, Tricky will present his new album at "Kablys"
Oh, yes! British trip-hop legend Tricky returns to the capital in September.
On September 2nd, Tricky will demonstrate his solid experience in Vilnius and present his new album, "Different When It’s Silent". The action takes place at "Kablys", which suits him very well. Both are shrouded in mysterious underground stories. Vilnius is one of the last cities to be added to Tricky's already impressive European concert tour.
Tricky's music is dark, hypnotic, and multi-layered. It is hard to confuse it with anything else. True, Tricky's darkness does not scare, but rather intrigues and draws one in. He is one of the most important figures in the British underground, having contributed significantly to the birth of trip-hop.
Beyond his solo career, an important part of Tricky's life is his collaborations with other artists, production work, and mentoring other musicians. Massive Attack, Björk, Neneh Cherry, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Cyndi Lauper, Ed Kowalczyk, Alanis Morissette, Nneka, Elvis Costello, Peter Doherty, PJ Harvey, Grace Jones, Yoko Ono, Martina Topley-Bird – these are just a few of the names and well-known artists Tricky has worked with. Over time, Tricky has changed creative directions, cities, publishing formats, sounds, and creative partners, but he has always remained unique and never tried to pander or please anyone. An artist-phenomenon and a constantly evolving creator.
Tricky's character is not an easy one, and there have been many things in the past, but he does not look back and moves forward. Although the name Tricky is inevitably linked to the history of trip-hop, he does not try to recreate his debut, fame-earning album "Maxinquaye" or play with nostalgia. Tricky still manages to surprise, which is something very few achieve. The current stage of Tricky revolves around his own record label, "False Idols", and time-tested collaborators.
Mature, but still dangerously unpredictable. Minimal, but not empty. Instinctive, yet disciplined. Well, at least in the studio.
On September 2nd, we will see a large group of talented musicians on the "Kablys" stage: Adrian Nigholas Matthew Thaws (this is his full and real name) (vocals), Velroyo John Bailey (drums), Ross Daniel Barnes (keys), Mariin Kallikorn (guitar), Mitchell Lee Sanders (vocals), and Marta Złakowska (vocals).
Polish vocalist Marta Złakowska is an exceptional guest on the tour. Over the last few years, Marta has become an important creative partner for Tricky. Her fragile and intimate vocals subtly complement Tricky's dark sound and give it even more vulnerability. Their joint album "Out the Way", released in 2025, was rated by critics as one of Tricky's strongest new works. This release cemented Marta and Tricky's collaboration not as a random experiment, but as an independent creative line.

"Different When It’s Silent" – Tricky's latest work
"Different When It’s Silent" is Tricky's fifteenth studio album and the first work released under his name after a six-year break. The reason is personal and very painful – the sudden death of his daughter.
"After my daughter died, there was a great desire to work even more. But all that media attention, public relations, marketing strategies, and everything else that accompanies the release of a new album... After Mina Mazy's death, I no longer had the strength for it. I was never a pop music star, but this event pushed me even further into the background," says Tricky, who has been actively working with other musicians in recent years: Oh Land, Joe Talbot from the band Idles, Paul Smith from Maxïmo Park, and many others. Suddenly, Tricky's new manager, Alan McGee, hearing his new work, convinced him that it is his best work since "Maxinquaye" and that Tricky simply must release it.
The release is permeated with grief, but carries a strong sense of life. "I am singing to my daughter," Tricky briefly describes the last song on the album, "Out Of Place". It is a heartbreaking coincidence that the album "Maxinquaye" is Tricky's tribute to his mother, who took her own life, and "Different When It’s Silent" is for his deceased daughter. Between these two albums lies thirty years of career, a rich music catalog, a lot of pain, internal transformations, and strong experiences.
"I am ready to live again. For a while, I was emotionally paralyzed. Now I am moving forward again. I am really looking forward to this big tour. I want to be on stage again. I am grateful that I can create music," says Tricky, who seems to have survived so much unbearable pain precisely with the help of music.
The fourteen-track album "Different When It’s Silent" will be released to the world this summer – July 17th. Tricky's own label, "False Idols", is already taking care of that.
The tracklist for the "Different When It’s Silent" album is already known.
1. "Still See Me There" 2. "I’m Yours" 3. "Be Still In The Pain" 4. "I Tried" 5. "So Cold" 6. "Paris Maybe" 7. "Cannon Fodder" 8. "Because I Don’t Know" 9. "Marinade" 10. "Radana" 11. "Piano" 12. "Frontier Town" 13. "Hengrove Blues" 14. "Out Of Place"
