You have often heard the phrase – "It was better under the Russians." Definitely not, or at least not for everyone. During the tour, you will find out whether it was really possible to choose in elections, how churches were closed, how the KGB operated, where the islands of freedom were in Vilnius, how much government officials earned, and that everyone was friends. You will touch objects from that era. We will tell you what the fees of officially recognized writers were and what happened if you were not loyal to the official position. And another thing – the government could have saved your family life. We will remind you of old phenomena, such as "kombinavimas" (hustling) and "blatas" (connections). During the tour, you will get acquainted with about 20 objects; some of them inspired respectful fear, there were queues at others, some changed their function, others remained. Finally, you will be able to answer the question for yourself whether it was better under the Russians. The tour starts from the Supreme Council of the LTSR, phew, from the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania.
Ladies and gentlemen, gentlemen are in Paris, and we are in Vilnius. Those older than 40 remember what Soviet-era people celebrated; for the younger ones – we will tell you. Let's see who had it better under the Russians. We will walk past former Soviet government institutions, past churches that were closed. The sites of former monuments to Soviet leaders, magazine editorial offices. According to Soviet "science," by about 1982 we were supposed to be living "for free." However, communism was defeated by the market economy.
Guide: Donatas Jokūbaitis.
