Tour "In the Shadow of Altars: Bernardine Church and Monastery"

The Bernardines were masters of public speaking, attracting crowds of people with their sermons. Therefore, upon arriving in Vilnius, they needed a spacious church, and for that, a large plot of land. Such a place was found on the outskirts of the Orthodox part of the city - a swampy, shrub-covered area next to the road to Polotsk. Over time, a church and a convent rose here, gardens bloomed, medicinal herbs scented the vegetable patches, and bathhouses were established by the Vilnia River.
