Cabaret punks – The Tiger Lillies return to Lithuania
The Tiger Lillies are a British musical trio founded in 1989 by Martyn Jacques. Their music is often described as a unique blend of dark cabaret, punk rock, chanson, and operatic elements, exploring macabre and melancholic themes through Jacques' distinctive falsetto and accordion sound. The group's theatrical performances have captivated audiences worldwide.
In Lithuania, The Tiger Lillies will hold two concerts: November 19 in Kaunas, at the newly revived cultural space "Daina," and November 20 in Vilnius, at the Keistuoliai Theatre. The legendary trio will present their latest album, "Serenade from the Sewer," which delves into the darkest corners of the human experience. The new album is based on Jacques' memories of the violent, turbulent Soho district of the 1980s – a world marked by social inequality, poverty, drug dealing, and the constant threat of danger.
"The main theme of many of the songs I've written is people living on the fringes of society. When I moved to Soho in the 1980s, I spent many hours just looking out the window... 'Serenade from the Sewer' conveys some of those memories. It was a happy time for me, but tragic for many of the people I knew and watched from my window," shares Martyn Jacques.
