Saint George, Kaiser, Adam Mickiewicz, Stalin, Lenin – these are just some of the official names that Vilnius' main street, Gediminas Avenue, has had. And let's not forget its hippie nickname, 'Brodas', and the stories of the youth from those times! Spanning two centuries and nearly 2 kilometers in length, the street has seen it all: cabbage patches being destroyed, the jackboots of tsarist subjects, pompous military parades, riots and executions, fairs and circus tents, the fall of Soviet idols, and the barricades of freedom. During this tour, we will look at the buildings where some of the most important historical events took place, but we won't forget the shops and cafes of the past that once lined the street – you will find out where Vilnius residents bought chocolate and where they drank 'a small, black, traditional' coffee. We will tell you the most interesting stories of the people who lived here and, of course, point out unique details you haven't noticed before.
