Based on W. Shakespeare's play "Hamlet"
N – 14
What is a crime? What is a greater crime – to kill or to commit suicide? Is lack of love a crime? How to honor your father and mother if you yourself have experienced a lack of unconditional love? What to choose: justice or mercy?
A subjective narrative constructed through the eyes of a young, maturing person, whose essential goal is to clarify and understand the motives and circumstances of the crime of murder and to expose all possible culprits – deconstructs the classic story of Hamlet, consciously reimagines it, and thus invites a curious look from a different angle. Here, the mousetrap turns into a spiritual trap, and those who fall into it will by no means avoid a confrontation with themselves: for some, it will be destructive, for others – cleansing, or perhaps even hopeful.
Director Ieva Stundžytė's plays for youth, which address uncomfortable and controversial topics and are included in the Keistuoliai Theatre repertoire, such as M. McDonagh's "The Pillowman" or M. Norman's "'night, Mother", have received great interest from audiences; therefore, this time as well, the goal of the play "The Mousetrap" is to speak openly and analyze family relationships, raise uncomfortable questions concerning the conflict between different generations, and search for possible solutions for mutual understanding.
