The legendary musical celebrating rock music and human transformation, "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" – for the first time in Lithuania. In 1998, Hedwig, born from the book by John Cameron Mitchell, stepped onto the off-Broadway stage – a rock prima donna traveling between genders, political regimes, and (un)happy loves, who had heard since childhood in East Germany that in order to get anywhere, one must leave a piece of oneself behind every time.
Just a couple of years later, Stephen Trask's musical reached the main stages of the West End and Broadway and to this day is one of the most famous works of this genre, celebrating the LGBTQ community and valued both for its music and its engaging narrative. At its center is Hedwig, finding her place in the sun every evening, and every evening experiencing the most open journey toward it. Filled with humor and a hard-hitting sound, the "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" musical is a celebration where the music touches everyone who has ever been rejected, misunderstood, or unloved, and the story gently invites everyone to meet their true self.
The charismatic Hedwig will be embodied by the well-known actor and singer Dominykas Vaitiekūnas, and his main stage partner – Yitzhak – will be played by film and theater actress Asta Zacharovaitė. The musical's director, Augustas Gornatkevičius, says: "Hedwig is one of the most iconic queer characters in the world. Like a certain reference point or sign from which we count the path traveled - both by our community and the whole world. I am very happy that Hedwig is finally arriving in Lithuania."
