History of Theatre "Saga"
Time changes generations, regimes, and theatre names. But we, who love and create theatre, remain.
In December 1963, the Republican Trade Union Palace of Culture opened its doors on Tauro Hill in Vilnius. An amateur troupe bearing the name of a people's theatre operated there. It was led by Lithuanian Drama Theatre actor and director Juozas Meškauskas, and later by Ramutis Rimeikis.
Around 1990, the paths of the troupe diverged: younger actors continued their activities as the theatre studio "Ąžuolas", while others, on the initiative of Petras Likša, gathered into the Vilnius Senior Theatre. Later, it was led by Ferdinandas Jakšys and Vytautas Mikalauskas.
In December 2004, a fire devastated the Trade Union Palace, and some of the theatre's belongings were lost in the flames. However, the troupe survived, creating and performing in other spaces in Vilnius.
In 2026, this theatre troupe, which has been creating for more than six decades, acquired a new name – from the former Vilnius Senior Theatre, the theatre "Saga" was born, in which people of various generations perform.
We are united by theatre.
