On July 9, the garden of the Gates of Dawn Carmelite Monastery will resonate with a solo violin program by Martynas Švėgžda von Bekker – a meditative journey from the Baroque to the present day, where a single instrument will unfold like an entire world of music.
This is a program that invites you to listen to the violin up close – its tranquility, colors, inner tension, and virtuosic sound. It is framed by two of the world's most famous versions of "Ave Maria": the evening will begin with J. S. Bach and Charles Gounod's "Ave Maria," and conclude with Franz Schubert's "Ave Maria."
Between these two musical anchor points, a vast world of solo violin will open up: from Baroque architecture and polyphonic sound to Andrij Shtoharenko's "Fantasia," Vytautas Barkauskas's "Partita," and works by M. Švėgžda von Bekker himself from the cycle "Garsas ir žodis" ("Le son et la parole").
Martynas Švėgžda von Bekker is a laureate of international competitions who has performed in Europe, the USA, and Asia, and has collaborated with renowned orchestras, conductors, and performers. Coming from a famous Lithuanian family of artists, he grew up surrounded by traditions of music and art, studied in Vilnius and Hamburg, and has taught at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, the Hamburg Conservatory, Boston University, and Berklee College of Music.
The "Summer Moods" festival concerts take place in an intimate space in the Vilnius Old Town, where music blends with the evening light, the silence of the garden, and the living backdrop of the city. The old monastery garden opens to only one hundred listeners, giving the concerts a rare sense of closeness. It is a slow summer experience in the city: before the concerts, listeners are invited to an aperitif in the garden, and later the evening continues with music under the open sky.
The aperitif is not included in the concert ticket price, and the number of places is limited, so those wishing to attend are invited to register by phone: +370 621 77016.
