Karolis Šarkus – saxophone Gediminas Stepanavičius – double bass Dovydas Šulskis – drums
On August 27, one of the most interesting creators and performers of the young generation of Lithuanian jazz, Karolis Šarkus, will perform with his trio in the garden of the Carmelite Monastery at the Gates of Dawn.
In the music of this trio, jazz becomes a living adventure – unpredictable, free, and born anew each time. The saxophone, double bass, and drums play without a harmonic instrument, which opens up more space in the music for improvisation, spontaneous turns, and mutual interplay. Original compositions, newly interpreted jazz standards, and the rhythms of modern jazz and hip-hop merge into a contemporary urban sound.
This is jazz for those who come to a concert not just to listen, but to experience – to be very close to the musicians, observe their dialogue, and let themselves be taken wherever the music leads. For one evening, the Carmelite Monastery garden will become a secret city stage where contemporary jazz will resonate surrounded by an old, sacred environment.
Karolis Šarkus is a saxophonist and composer who studied in the Netherlands and the USA and actively performs in Lithuania and abroad. He has won international competitions in Italy and Latvia and recently released a new solo album. Joining him will be double bassist Gediminas Stepanavičius and drummer Dovydas Šulskis – active performers of the young generation of improvisational and contemporary music.
The "Summer Moods" festival concerts take place in a chamber space in the Vilnius Old Town, which opens up to only one hundred listeners. This is a rare opportunity to hear the Karolis Šarkus trio under the open sky, in an environment where such a jazz sound has not yet been heard.
Before the concert, listeners are invited to an aperitif in the garden. The aperitif is not included in the ticket price, the number of places is limited, so registration by phone is required: +370 621 77016.
