Concert by the kanklės players of the ensemble "Lietuva" orchestra
November 11, 7:00 PM, Vilnius, ORGANUM concert hall
How many different characters can the kanklės have? Lyrical and playful, subtle and energetic, sounding as a solo, a duet, or joining into a full kanklės ensemble. The musical program "With Love, Kanklės" is an invitation to a cozy date with the kanklės players of the ensemble "Lietuva" orchestra, who will reveal the unexpected moods and colors of this instrument.
The concert will feature works by Lithuanian and international composers, bringing together different eras and musical languages. And if you are meeting the kanklės for the first time, you might be surprised by how many styles they can encompass and how diversely they can unfold. Although the first to play authentic kanklės were men, this time they are more gentle and feminine than ever.
"With Love, Kanklės" will invite you to listen, dream, and awaken a myriad of the warmest feelings. Different performer lineups and a wide repertoire will reveal the amplitude of the instrument's timbres, technical capabilities, and moods – from Lithuanian musical traditions to interpretations of classical or contemporary music.
As is known, 2026 has been declared the commemorative Year of the Kanklės. This is an opportunity to rediscover the unique Lithuanian folk instrument that has accompanied our culture for centuries and nurtured a living tradition of music-making. Today, the kanklės not only preserve a connection to the past but also surprise with their modernity – their possibilities inspire composers and performers to seek ever-new forms of expression. On November 11, all that remains is to listen – let the kanklės reveal themselves in ways you may have never heard before.
