The special "First Wave" screening invites you to discover the cinematic magic of Segundo de Chomón, a director and special effects master often called the "Spanish Méliès." Starting his career with "trick films" sparkling with ingenuity and wit, he eventually helped make special effects an integral part of cinematic storytelling. The films in this program allow us to observe the dizzying transformation of early film language: unexpected metamorphoses, coming-to-life objects, and fantastic visions gradually evolve from independent, awe-inspiring attractions into parts of stories filled with adventure and dramatic experiences. This is an opportunity to get to know a creator whose technical ingenuity not only stirred the imagination but also strengthened cinema's ability to move audiences. N-13. Silent films.
