About this event

At the Music Magic Club, the program "Sounds Without Borders" will be presented by bassoonist Andrius Puplauskis, oboist Ugnius Dičiūnas, and pianist Anastasija Bramo!

The musicians will begin the concert with Lithuanian accents – the visual composition "Colors" by Zita Bružaitė and the elegant Variations by Balys Dvarionas. The romantic, calm side of the evening will be opened by Robert Schumann's Romances, which will be replaced by the completely opposite energy of André Previn's trio.

In the second part, Camille Saint-Saëns' sonata will reveal the beauty of the bassoon and its rarely heard lyricism. This instrument is often associated with humor or character roles, but in the sonata, it speaks sensitively, nobly, and with extraordinary melody. Immediately after, Osvaldas Balakauskas' "Globe Suite" will sketch the soundscapes of the four cardinal directions. The culmination of the evening will be Francis Poulenc's trio – one of the most prominent chamber music masterpieces of the 20th century. It contains everything that makes this composer's work fascinating: elegance, wit, gentle irony, lyricism, and unfading life energy.

About the performers:

Andrius Puplauskis – principal bassoonist of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra and the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, actively performs as a soloist and chamber musician, and collaborates with various ensembles. He performs a wide repertoire – from Baroque to contemporary music, and is also interested in electroacoustic music and improvisation. In 2017, at the "Jauna muzika" festival, he presented an electroacoustic bassoon program featuring works by Lithuanian composers. Since 2006, he has been teaching at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and conducting masterclasses in Lithuania and abroad.

Ugnius Dičiūnas – concertmaster of the oboe section of the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, awarded a letter of appreciation by the President of Lithuania Dalia Grybauskaitė with the trio "Colors". Since 2014, he has been a member of the St. Christopher Woodwind Quintet. With this ensemble, he released the CD "Aerofonia" in 2020, which is a retrospective of music by Lithuanian composers for woodwind quintet.

Anastasija Bramo – pianist, actively performing soloist and member of chamber ensembles. Since 2022, she has been an associate professor at the Folkwang Universität der Künste (Essen, Germany). She has performed in prestigious halls, including the Musikverein and Wiener Konzerthaus in Vienna, Cologne Philharmonic, Frankfurt Alte Oper, Dortmund Konzerthaus, and others. She has participated in festivals in Lithuania and abroad, including the Pablo Casals Festival Prades and the Internationale Sommerakademie Mozarteum Salzburg.
