The Cure to perform in Lithuania for the first time
The legendary British band The Cure will perform in Lithuania for the first time this summer. The long-awaited show, taking place on August 7 in Vilnius at Kalnų parkas, will be a major event for music lovers – one of the most influential alternative music bands is finally coming to the capital. The Cure concert in Lithuania is part of the "Sounds Good Vilnius" music festival taking place this August at Kalnų parkas.
The Cure concert in Vilnius will be opened by two Lithuanian music stars – Alina Orlova and the band Katarsis, who were personally selected by The Cure frontman Robert Smith. This choice also delighted the concert organizers: "We are happy to be able to invite music gourmets to an exclusive evening of live music in a unique Vilnius location. Well-known, interesting Lithuanian alternative music creators and a 2-hour program spanning five decades of The Cure's work – an extraordinary Friday evening awaits the audience on August 7."
The Cure is one of the most prominent and long-lasting bands in the history of modern music. Since their formation in 1978, the band has released numerous critically acclaimed albums and has become a symbol of innovation in alternative and gothic rock. The Cure's career, spanning nearly five decades, has shaped and influenced entire generations of musicians and listeners.
Formed in Crawley, England, and led by the iconic frontman Robert Smith, The Cure has been shaping the sound and spirit of alternative, gothic rock, and post-punk for half a century. Their debut album, "Three Imaginary Boys," released in 1979, was well-received by critics and cemented The Cure's place in the post-punk and new wave scenes.
Having built a global fan base with their cult albums "Disintegration," "Wish," and "Bloodflowers," the band is famous for their atmospheric sound, emotional depth, and memorable live performances.
The latest studio album by The Cure, "Songs of a Lost World," released in 2024, became the band's first record after a 16-year hiatus and was highly praised by critics. The album, which once again confirms The Cure's importance in the alternative music scene, reveals the band's characteristic melancholic intensity, exploring themes of loss, mortality, and reflection.
Throughout their career, The Cure has released 14 studio albums, several live and compilation albums, over 40 singles, and has sold over 30 million records. They have performed nearly 2,000 concerts – both solo shows and festival appearances. The band has also released several concert films and created numerous soundtracks for films. It is no secret that Robert Smith's style became the inspiration for one of Tim Burton's most iconic films, "Edward Scissorhands." Later, Smith composed music for two more of Burton's films.
The Cure has won numerous prestigious music awards, including a Brit Award, an MTV Video Music Award, an Ivor Novello, and others. In 2019, the band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. At the 2026 Grammy Awards, The Cure won two Grammys for the first time in their 50-year career – for Best Alternative Music Album ("Songs of a Lost World") and Best Alternative Music Performance (the song "Alone"). These accolades are a significant milestone in the band's history, highlighting The Cure's longevity and enduring artistic relevance even decades after the band's formation.
Alina Orlova is one of the most prominent and unique creators of Lithuanian alternative music, distinguished by her poetic language and an unmistakable dreamy voice, like a story echoing from afar. In her music, one can find hints of modernized folklore, sung poetry, and arrangements that are at times cabaret-like, valuing silence as much as sound, hauntingly luring one to come closer.
The alternative rock band Katarsis experiments with post-punk, indie, and other musical styles. In 2024, the band released the mini-album "Dausos," and in January 2026, their first full-length album "Žiedlapis tau" was released. In 2025, Katarsis represented Lithuania in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Tavo akys." Since then, they have gone on several concert tours in Europe and are currently creating new music and planning even more performances both in Lithuania and abroad.
The Cure concert in Vilnius promises a broad musical program covering the band's entire impressive creative journey. Furthermore, by combining nostalgia and emotional intensity, The Cure is also famous for their immersive live performances that captivate audiences all over the world.
