You can miss something by accident.
But you can also choose not to hear.
Convicts' stories rarely remain on the margins by chance – more often they are conveniently silenced. Behind catchy headlines, behind short verdicts, behind a label that explains everything too quickly.
What happens when you stop and listen after all?
The headline is no longer enough.
The story becomes more complex than the label.
The stereotype begins to crack.
A voice emerges. A tone. A pause. A doubt. Laughter. Shame. Hope.
A human being emerges.
And that human being is not "over there." They are closer than is comfortable to admit.
To hear does not mean to justify.
To hear means to see a broader picture than a stereotypical label and only then slowly paint a full portrait of a person.
A group of early-career journalists, mentored by LRT RADIJO journalist Urtė Karalaitė, regularly visited Vilnius prison, where they interviewed 7 convicts. Fragments of their stories in the sound installation merge with music by composer Pijus Džiugas Meižis, creating an experience that stirs various emotions.
Stories collected by: Justė Luščinskytė, Indrė Krivickaitė, Inga Bartulevičiūtė, Gabija Vaitkevičiūtė, Urtė Karalaitė, Diana Lapinskaitė, Lukas Suchodolski.
