Rotting Christ is one of the most prominent and influential Greek metal bands, having started their history back in 1987 in Athens. Over nearly four decades, the band has grown from the underground black metal scene to become an international name, inseparable from their distinct, atmospheric sound.
From their early black metal recordings to their current work, Rotting Christ is constantly looking for new ways to infuse their sound with a ritualistic atmosphere and musical motifs from different cultures. Their work weaves together heavy guitar riffs, evocative choirs, dark melodies, and echoes of the ancient world, while their lyrics consistently return to mythology, religion, history, occultism, and the human relationship with faith.
A special place in the band's music is held by Greek culture and mythology – it is this authentic identity that helped shape the distinct sound of so-called Hellenic black metal. However, Rotting Christ has never limited themselves to a single genre or era.
With over three decades of experience, a multitude of albums, and more than a thousand concerts worldwide, Rotting Christ is today one of the most important bands in the Greek metal scene. This is a band whose live performances are not just a heavy music concert, but a dark, intense, and ritualistic experience that transports you to a world where ancient myths meet modern metal.
