Éric - Emmanuel Shmitt
“Small marital crimes”
A love detective story
Gilles wakes up in the hospital with a bandaged head and amnesia. A beautiful woman enters the room and claims that she is Lisa, his wife, and that Gilles is her husband.
Lisa takes Gilles home and begins to tell the story of their life together, which he does not remember at all!
Thus begins an intellectual duel between these two people, a labyrinth of relationships, a trap of memories. Which one of them is lying? Or perhaps both? The longer they talk, the more layers are revealed: tenderness becomes menacing, and humor becomes a masked attack. The dialogues act like a game of chess, where the truth changes with every sentence.
What is love? Can it be restored? Perhaps marriage is a creative process where spouses seek to recreate each other? Or is it a union of killers?
Shmitt combines philosophical questions with everyday details, masterfully blending erotic playfulness, dark humor, and psychological intrigue.
Director OLEGAS ŠAPOŠNIKOVAS (LV), also being a professional psychologist, creates a deeply grounded and motivated stage performance.
The charismatic duo of actors VALDA BIČKUTĖ and VYTAUTAS RUMŠAS (Jr.) convincingly convey the complex experiences of the characters.
Set designer MARIJUS JACOVSKIS and costume designer JUOZAS VALENTA have created a recognizable yet aesthetically stylized space for the play.
