Based on the play by Goda Simonaitytė
Oskaras Koršunovas Theatre presents the premiere based on Goda Simonaitytė's play "Šūdmala". This play won first place in the "Dramos teritorija" playwright competition held last year.
Inspired by philosopher Harry G. Frankfurt's concept of "bullshit," this comedy takes a biting look not only at the contemporary art world but also at our wider times, where opinion easily becomes content, image becomes identity, and chatter and nonsense increasingly mask a lack of professionalism. "Šūdmala" invites us to laugh at the absurdity of the art market, the creator's ego, bureaucratic rituals, and the constant need to be relevant, while simultaneously raising uncomfortable questions: what determines the value of art, how much does the author's name influence how we view a work, what determines entry into the art market, when does complex artistic language become meaningful, and when is it just bullshit?
The intellectual discussion simmering in the play, covering current issues in contemporary philosophy and the field of fine arts, reveals not only the story of a young artist, a narcissist whose ambitions do not match his abilities, but also exposes the mechanisms that often determine not only the success of artworks but also the power of culture.
Goda Simonaitytė's "Šūdmala" was chosen as the best play in the "Dramos teritorija" competition, surpassing more than 80 others.
