British alternative rock band Placebo will celebrate their 30th anniversary in Vilnius this autumn. On October 15, the band will hold an anniversary concert at the "ARENA VILNIUS" arena, featuring tracks from their first two albums – "Placebo" and "Without You I’m Nothing". Many critics and fans still consider these records to be among the most creatively strong in Placebo's discography.
"Nancy Boy", "Teenage Angst", "36 Degrees", "Every You Every Me", "Pure Morning", "You Don’t Care About Us", "Without You I’m Nothing" – these are songs that spoke boldly and provocatively to thousands back then, and today are an inseparable part of Placebo's gold standard.

In the mid-90s, when Britpop dominated Great Britain, Placebo burst onto the scene like a draft through wide-open balcony doors. Teenage maximalism, provocative openness, shifting boundaries of sexuality, mental health, intoxicating substances – the lyrics spoke about what was extremely relevant to young people, even though it was barely heard in pop music at the time.
Band leader Brian Molko, recalling that period, highlights the song "Nancy Boy" in particular: "We reacted very strongly to the machismo of Britpop, the football chants, and the revisionism and nationalism that we perceived as a kind of musical xenophobia. With our image – dresses and makeup – we aimed to clearly show our political position on the fluidity of sexuality. We wanted to disrupt established norms, and I think 'Nancy Boy' became the perfect soundtrack for that."
Brian Molko's provocatively ambiguous, androgynous image further fueled discussions and skeptical assessments. However, the gold status of the debut album "Placebo" and the platinum status of the second album "Without You I’m Nothing" – with over a million copies sold – clearly showed that a new bright star had risen in the alternative rock firmament.
Celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of their debut album, the band will release a special album "Placebo RE:CREATED" – fans will be able to pre-order it starting March 18. This album features newly recorded and expanded versions of all ten songs from the original album, plus two bonus tracks from the first release. The recordings reflect how these songs have changed over decades of concerts, yet they have retained the raw initial energy that became their essence. These new recordings further highlight the sense of urgency and attitude that made the original versions sound so powerful, while also reflecting the band's growth and the experience gained since their debut.
