We invite you to visit the exhibition "A World Without Čiurlionis. Valkirija/Vilks/Motulė", dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the birth of M. K. Čiurlionis' sister, Valerija Čiurlionytė-Karužienė.
Today, the artworks of Čiurlionis form the golden fund of Lithuanian culture, and following the global commemoration of the artist and composer's 150th anniversary, his work is becoming increasingly established in the international cultural field. It is hard to even imagine what the world would look like without the work of Čiurlionis, yet between 1914 and 1953, his paintings could have been lost at least four times. All four times, the creator's sister, Valerija, played a crucial role in saving Čiurlionis' painterly legacy.
Exhibition creator, film director and poet Romas Lileikis:
"In the whirlwinds of history, Čiurlionis' works could have disappeared. They had to be protected: sometimes even by taking drastic, fateful actions. Anything could have destroyed them: negligence, foreign aggression, or fear born in the grip of ideologies. Courage, strength, and determination were needed to preserve the brother's legacy and restore the Čiurlionis home."
