We will tell you the story of Magdutė, a girl of about nine years old, who lived during a very difficult time for Lithuania, but endured everything and did not break. We will tell you how she learned to be brave and overcame her fears, which, believe me, sprout in every child's heart like mushrooms after rain. Especially when a happy and bright childhood is trampled by the heavy leaden feet of war and post-war turmoil. This story is about a fighter, a tracker, a forest sister who became a helper to Lithuania's freedom fighters when the occupying invaders deported her family to distant Siberia. The mirror of Magdutė's story also reflects the history of Lithuania's post-war period, partisan struggles and sacrifice, and the endurance of ordinary people who went through fire and water, dark times of lies, and finally led Lithuania to independence.
The play was inspired by the excellent and already beloved children's book by Marius Marcinkevičius and Lina Itagaki, "The Girl with the Rifle. A Story About a Partisan Girl." However, Stalo teatras would not be Stalo teatras if it did not come up with a way to present it as convincingly and interestingly as possible, using new, unexpected object theater techniques for the viewer, and under the open sky at that. You will certainly have never seen a play like this! This time, pots of various sizes, shapes, colors, and ages will act and tell the story for you. Of course, the most important thing here is not their shape, but their content – what is cooking in those pots and what we will be able to treat the audience with. Courage, hope, sensitivity of heart, and compassion? Perhaps love, longing, memories of childhood days? Or perhaps persistent determination to fight against evil and injustice in the daily environment in which we live? Ultimately – if there are pots, there will also be spoons, which in a child's hands are in any case superior to rifles.
