Osvaldo Golijov

We invite you to an exclusive "Closer to Music" evening dedicated to one of the most brilliant and highly regarded composers of our time – Osvaldo Golijov. This creator has become a true phenomenon in the world of music. He achieved his greatest international breakthrough when commissioned by the International Bach Academy Stuttgart: to mark the 250th anniversary of J. S. Bach's death, his "La Pasión según San Marcos" (St. Mark Passion) caused a true revolution. The Jewish-born composer managed to transform the Christian narrative into a rhythmic Latin American ritual, blending Afro-Caribbean rhythms, swing, and tango. Critics at the time unanimously declared that modern music history had just been born in Stuttgart.

Two Grammy Awards for the opera Ainadamar, the prestigious MacArthur "Genius Grant," and close collaboration with legends such as the Kronos Quartet or director Francis Ford Coppola (for whose latest film Megalopolis Golijov wrote the soundtrack) only prove the depth and universality of his music.

You will have the opportunity to experience this synthesis of eras and cultures yourself. In a specially adapted chamber setting, while listening to high-resolution Hi-Fi recordings, you will hear every vibration of academic precision, klezmer melancholy, and passionate tango sounds.

The CLOSER TO MUSIC subscription is valid for this event.

CLOSER TO MUSIC consists of evenings with different meeting formats dedicated to attentive listening and a deeper understanding of music. Some are led by interesting "guides" – musicologists, musicians, music lovers, and other experts in their field, who invite you to get to know the musical culture of a certain genre, composer, instrument, performer, or country more closely. In other meetings, the main axis of the evening is recorded music – this is music listening according to a pre-prepared program. We listen to high-quality recordings reproduced from vinyl records or high-resolution digital files – this allows us to feel the specific emotional content, appreciate the nuances of the performance, and immerse ourselves in the depths of this music.
