From Renaissance visions to the Cold War space race – OTTW’26 presents epic music about courage, progress, and humanity's quest to conquer the sky. In this unique cinematic concert, hundred-million-view video game hits, the writings of L. da Vinci, and the legendary JFK Moon speech will merge with the historic finale of "Turandot". Having conquered the Washington stage and the Olympic ice, it will be reborn in the most anticipated premiere in Europe!
Continuing the unique "Open To The World" festival, the ISM Choir "Bel Canto" offers an exceptional concert experience. On December 4–5, 2026, the festival presents one of the most famous contemporary composers of concert, opera, and video game music, conductor, and two-time Grammy winner Christopher Tin (USA). After two sold-out performances in 2024, he returns to Vilnius with an even more ambitious program.
The largest OTTW’26 concert will bring together 230 performers from Lithuania, the USA, Sweden, France, and Ukraine: the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, three choirs – the ISM Choir "Bel Canto", the Swedish "A Scalpella", and the girls' choir "Liepaitės" – the vocal ensemble "Les Itinérantes", vocalist Jamal Moore, and soloists Kseniya Bakhritdinova (soprano) and Peter Drackley (tenor).
The only evening of its kind in Europe: epic music about the history of flight and the human desire to rise
For the only time this year in Europe, the world-renowned Tin album "To Shiver the Sky" will be performed live at the LVSO Concert Hall. It is an oratorio about the history of flight and humanity's quest to conquer the sky. In it, eleven of the most famous astronomers, inventors, visionaries, and pilots speak about our relentless desire to explore the universe, defy earthly limits, and earn our place among the stars.
The themes of scientific knowledge and discovery in the program are connected by two powerful highlights: the "Civilization VI" video game hit "Sogno di Volare", inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's texts on flight, and the historic US President John F. Kennedy speech "We Choose to Go to the Moon". It became one of the most prominent symbols of the Cold War and the "space race" that rallied American society for the flight to the Moon.
"To Shiver the Sky" also opens up the dark side of progress. "Become Death" is the album's most dramatic and mystical piece. If many compositions celebrate progress and the joy of flight, this one reveals the shadow of technological progress – the creation of a weapon of mass destruction. The piece directly reflects the emergence of the atomic bomb and the spiritual crisis of its creator, J. Robert Oppenheimer, reminding us that the same scientific evolution that began with Leonardo da Vinci's dreams of flight ultimately gave humanity the power to destroy itself.
One of the most interesting features of the album is its impressive instrumentation. Aiming to reveal the history of aviation, Tin leads the listener through different musical eras: from the Middle Ages and Classicism to Impressionism, Romanticism, Modernism, and contemporary post-classical music. The album is sung in various languages – English, Latin, Italian, German, French, Polish, Sanskrit, and others. In this way, the composer sends a strong message of unity: regardless of race, culture, or religion, we are all connected by a common human experience.
Historic "Turandot" finale: from the Washington stage and Olympic ice – to OTTW’26. Premiere in Europe!
Christopher Tin became world-famous for his Grammy-winning "Civilization" video game compositions, but in 2024, the Washington National Opera entrusted him with an even greater challenge – to create a new finale for Giacomo Puccini's opera "Turandot". He became only the fourth composer in history to be entrusted with this task.
The premiere received exceptionally favorable reviews. Critics called the new finale a creative victory that solved the opera's dramaturgical challenges and emphasized its musical precision and psychological depth. "The Wall Street Journal" wrote that the scene "grows organically out of Puccini's original – like a tasteful modern accent on a historic building." The fact that Japanese figure skating star Yuma Kagiyama chose it for his performance at this year's Winter Olympics brought even more attention to the piece.
In the OTTW’26 concerts, this piece will become the main highlight of the first part – and it is here that it will be performed live in Europe for the first time.
Exclusive content and concert experience in Christmas Vilnius
The concert will also feature Tin's most prominent works that earned him global fame and two Grammy awards. These are the iconic "Civilization" video game soundtrack pieces – the hundred-million-stream hits "Baba Yetu", "Sogno di Volare", as well as "Waloyo Yamoni" and the piece "Live Gloriously" from the latest "Civilization VII" soundtrack.
This time, the concert experience will be enhanced by video projections. In the LVSO hall, they will echo the symbols of Tin's epic music, subtly combining visual dramaturgy and sound.
