"Summer Wasps Sting Us Even in November" is a story about how two men and one woman, not knowing what to do with their lives, how to fight absolute loneliness and meaninglessness, embark on a bold and tragicomic journey through a world of tangled relationships. They try to find a way out of a situation where normal methods of communication no longer work. In order to free themselves from loneliness and self-deception, the play's characters attempt to escape from the trap of time, to flee from both existence and themselves. The search for truth gains momentum, eventually leading to absurdity. And only the rain remains – the rain that has been falling for three days now. Only the summer wasps remain – the sacred summer bees that sting us even in November. It is very interesting and particularly moving. Here, as always in I. Vyrypaev's plays, it is very funny, a little sad, a little cruel, and, ultimately, a little bit about the meaning of life.
Critics describe I. Vyrypaev's dramaturgy as works existing somewhere between the American director, the cult director of "Pulp Fiction" Quentin Tarantino, and the Russian cinema classic, the director of "Solaris" Andrei Tarkovsky.
"Summer Wasps Sting Us Even in November" is my favorite play. Perhaps because there is a secret in the very construction of the text. For example, there is one important detail that the audience will never learn about in the performance, but they can feel it. I do not know how this play will be staged, with what key the director will unlock it, and what will be presented to the audience. I am sure that there will be love and light in the performance. Nevertheless, "Summer Wasps..." is a very difficult play to stage, so directors face a challenging task. Of course, this is both the author's fault and perhaps an overly complex form, but I hope that it will be fun, sad, and useful for everyone," says the play's author I. Vyrypaev.
