Engaging object education combining traditional folk tales and creative play
The State Youth Theatre presents the object education "Fairy Tale Stories" ("Pasakų istorijos"), created by director Saulė Degutytė together with actresses Aldona Bendoriūtė and Dalia Morozovaitė.
S. Degutytė founded the unconventional artist group "Stalo teatras" in 2004 and has been leading it since 2010. Here, she has directed about 40 object and prop theatre performances based on folk tales, legends, and myths of various nations, literary works by Lithuanian and foreign writers, and specially created dramas. She has organized object exhibitions and installations in Lithuania and abroad. The director is a member of the ASSITEJ Lithuania association for theatre for children and young people and the international puppetry association UNIMA. In 2022, she was awarded the Government of the Republic of Lithuania Culture and Art Prize; her works have been nominated for the "Golden Stage Cross" multiple times, and in 2012 and 2014, they were honored with this award.
The educational program is intended for primary school students and combines tradition with contemporary art. During the session, children not only watch a Lithuanian folk tale told through object theatre but also become creators themselves – crafting their own mini-performances from various objects.
