Escaping to prison has never been so easy.
The historic Lukiškės Prison complex, surrounded by a high fence, invites you for a walk.
Lukiškės Prison is not the answer to all questions. But who wouldn't want to visit it? Those interested in the daily life of prisoners in the former prison during its final years of operation are invited to a unique daytime walk; for those who enjoy sharper sensations, a night experience is recommended; and for those wishing to look even deeper – a historical walk that introduces the more than century-long history of Lukiškės Prison, its different periods, and the prison architecture. Three different walk formats – three ways to get to know one of the most exceptional places in Vilnius. An experience with no analogues in the entire region.
We cannot shake the feeling that such a walk and trek in the footsteps of convicts is the best kept secret in the whole city. Let us remind you that the writer Žemaitė, signatories of the Act of Independence of Lithuania Jonas Vileišis, Mykolas Biržiška, and Vladas Mironas, partisan leader Adolfas Ramanauskas-Vanagas, Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, and many other historical figures were imprisoned here.
Henrikas Daktaras was also imprisoned here, but you already know that fact.
Day and Night Walk
Many have had the chance to listen to stories about life in prisons, the criminal world, or Lukiškės. But who knows everything better than those who know Lukiškės Prison perfectly and worked here for quite a long time? Our prison guards spent a considerable amount of time in Lukiškės and saw everything with their own eyes. Adding the long-term professional experience and connections of our guides, they all become almost dream interviewees. Don't be afraid to be curious and save your deepest questions for the walk.
Death row cells, visitation rooms, human-containers, operas, historical figures, prohibited items, horses, love affairs, secret artworks, prisoner weddings, prison escapes, and never-before-seen spaces of Lukiškės Prison.
After the sun goes down, the prison really feels haunted and becomes even more interesting. This is more than an escape room, a tour, or a night at the museum. An interactive walk in the dark – you, the walls of Lukiškės Prison, and a flashlight. We assure you that this is a walk you will definitely remember for the rest of your life. Walk by day and by night! Take care of your tickets in advance. It is definitely worth it.
Lukiškės Prison Objects
The current Lukiškės Prison complex, by the way, very modern and expensive as a correctional facility, was designed by architect G. Trambickis and his team. The prison was completed in 1904.
The Lukiškės Prison complex consists of an administrative building, the St. Nicholas the Wonderworker Church building, a dormitory building, a prison building, a prison-hospital building, a fence, and a security checkpoint. This complex is included in the Register of Cultural Values and has the status of a national cultural value.
Lukiškės Prison 2.0
Lukiškės Prison has awakened the attention of citizens and artists. The new version of Lukiškės Prison creates a different image, emotion, and narrative. Lukiškės Prison 2.0 is not just a new or better version of the prison. It is much more.
Conversion is one of the most interesting cultural phenomena in Lithuania. From now on, we look only at a better version of the prison instead of looking back. Lukiškės Prison is full of culture, music, and bright people. The conversion format we proposed already unites 650 creators and residents. The community of residents in Lukiškės creates good and shares it with the citizens. A historical heritage site in the center of Vilnius has become a generator of music, modern art, design, and culture.
Lukiškės Prison has become a wonderful place, working for the benefit of its communities and supporting its artists. There is a lot of culture here, which is why artists and creatives want to create here. This vision and concept have attracted European and global attention. All that remains is to change your perspective and enjoy this conversion.
