The play "(Un)Known" is a feminine, dramatic one-woman show based on the stories of one of the most famous women of the 20th century – Marilyn Monroe. The lead role is performed by Justina Stankevič, an actress from the Polish Theatre Studio. Sexuality, grace, madness, a million-dollar smile – yes, everything fits into one woman, but does even more fit? Pain, disappointment, inner tragedy, an unquenchable feeling of loneliness? The action takes place in a dressing room, where the woman returns to the past, meeting herself face to face. Finally, Marilyn ends up within the walls of a hospital. The woman is tormented by her conscience, seeking answers in alcohol and intoxicants... The play is interwoven with musical pieces that became an inseparable part of the actress's short career.
The action of the monodrama takes the viewer to a film set dressing room. In this enclosed space, the main character Marilyn Monroe returns to her past and meets herself face to face. The play dismantles the superficial image of the Hollywood icon – behind the sexuality, grace, madness, and "million-dollar smile" lies deep pain, disappointment, inner tragedy, and an unquenchable, devastating feeling of loneliness. In the plot, the heroine is tormented by her conscience, she seeks answers and comfort in alcohol or intoxicants, and eventually ends up within the walls of a psychiatric hospital.
