On July 1st at 5:30 PM, we invite you to the presentation of Mindaugas Gabrėnas' solo exhibition "Still Water" and a meeting with the author at the "Prospektas" gallery.
The photography exhibition "Still Water" is a reflection on the world around us and its imperceptible shifts. Unlike the primary goal of photography to capture a clear, recognizable image, in this cycle, the author focuses on ephemeral states – on what slips past our gaze and consciousness. Sometimes it disappears faster than we can name it, sometimes it lingers longer, despite the noise of everyday life.
Nietzsche warned that due to a lack of peace and listening, our civilization is sliding into a new barbarism. The exhibition is a response to this warning, inviting us to remember the slow time of being. The vita contemplativa spirit of the exhibition invites you to stop, listen, and be with yourself.
Long exposure on the negative captures extended time – it becomes almost tangible. At the same time, human silhouettes fade, forms dissolve, and space becomes boundless. The image emerging in the still water is not so much of the world, but our own inner landscape.
The author chooses analog technique – each photograph is slowly printed by his own hands. Here, even mold on an old negative becomes an organic filter, protecting against the clamor of information. In "Still Water," silence drowns out sounds – the exhibition invites you not so much to look, but to be. As Cato said, a man is never more active than when he seems to be doing nothing; never less alone than when he is alone with himself.
"Prospektas" gallery opening hours: Tue–Fri 12:00–18:00; Sat 12:00–16:00.
