Ralf and Marta – a modern couple – are preoccupied with their careers, healthy lifestyles, and public image. Marta, having quit her teaching job, decides to run for the position of institute director and is meticulously preparing for the competition, but her life is thrown into disarray by the news of a suddenly appearing father who needs care. That man lived with another woman for many years, but after she passed away, her children found Marta and declared that, as his biological daughter, she is now obligated to take care of the old man. This does not fit into Marta's strict schedule at all. What to do? How will their lives change? Or perhaps, should she not take him in? The situation also affects the relationship between Marta and Ralf. The daughter does not have a single good memory of that old man. How did he treat Marta in childhood, and what kind of behavior will she receive now?
Europe is aging more and more, but what is the status of elderly people in society? Are they just old, useless bodies? What is the relationship between children and parents, the connection of grievances and care?
The creators of the play ask, how does memory shape our present? Memories, by rewriting the past, begin to create a new narrative. To remember here is like to learn. A sense of fear permeates not only the content of "Sulfur Magnolias" but also the form of the play – by dropping one scattered word at a time into the characters' mouths, Martin Algus raises tension, distrust, and anxiety.
