"Marti Encore:12" – A musical narrative inspired by Žemaitė's short story "Marti" (The Daughter-in-Law), where works by Lithuanian and international female composers meet fragments of Žemaitė's texts. It is a program about a woman's life, creativity, invisible daily work, and experiences that connect women who lived over a century ago with the present day.
In the project's title, the word "encore" – which in music means a repetition of a piece requested by the audience – serves as a metaphor for life. It is not just daily tasks, worries, and responsibilities that return, but also the silences passed down from generation to generation and words that remained unspoken. All of this repeats like a musical motif, constantly asking to be heard once more.
The program will feature works by Rūta Vitkauskaitė, Egidija Medekšaitė, Zita Bružaitė, Nijolė Sinkevičiūtė, Žibuoklė Martinaitytė, Diana Čemerytė, Rita Mačiliūnaitė, Ugnė Giedraitytė, Justė Janulytė, and German composer Clara Schumann, complemented by fragments of Žemaitė's texts.
Performed by:
Giedrė Žarėnaitė-Molenaar – violin Vytautas Giedraitis – clarinet Sebastiaan Molenaar (Norway) – percussion Simona Zajančauskaitė – piano
The creation of the project is funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture.
