Oskaras Koršunovas: “Expulsion” touches upon a very relevant topic – emigration. We probably don't even grasp its scale statistically: it is only speculated how many people have left, emigrated, but this situation is not analyzed in the political sphere – let alone the cultural and artistic sphere. In art, we have almost no serious analysis, no serious perspective on what is happening now with Lithuania, with the nation. Behind this lie not only the interests of the nation and the state – behind this lie broken human lives, entire odysseys – whether these people will return or not... They leave their country, their homes, their families. Emigrations are different. Today, emigration is different, but there was a time when people went abroad with a one-way ticket, not knowing the language, having nothing, often – deceived... We see such a situation in “Expulsion”.
What is emigration? What lies behind this word? Many things lie behind it, one of the most important of which is the loss of identity. Or perhaps – finding it in another country? After all, the question of individual identity is one of the most relevant these days. “Expulsion” reveals many possibilities and solutions to this question. Essentially, emigration is a horizontal spiritual journey “to happiness,” often turning into a vertical journey downward, into misfortune.”
