Director Žilvinas Beniušis presents a modern, humor-filled interpretation of Molière’s classic comedy – the play "Aš gydytojas" ("I Am a Doctor").
The plot tells the absurd story of Sganarelle, a simple banana vendor who is tricked by his wife into being mistaken for a miracle-working doctor. Upon arriving at the home of the wealthy Géronte, and having no knowledge of medicine, he begins to "treat" everyone who believes more in beautiful words than in reality using absurd methods and made-up Latin.
In the hands of director Ž. Beniušis, Molière’s classic, interpreted through the rhythm of contemporary clowning and circus, turns into an open, spirited, physically humorous, energetic, and colorful piece of theater, intended for those who miss quality laughter, acting mastery, and sharp social irony.
"Aš gydytojas" is a reminder that the theater is a place that invites us, if only for a moment, to "take off our masks" and laugh at our desires, greed, and the wish to appear better than we are. "Aš gydytojas" heals not with medicine, but with laughter and a reminder: let’s not take ourselves too seriously!
