About this event

In this workshop, you will learn how to develop improvisation characters and not lose them, and how to develop their ideas and values. Usually, in the world of improvised performances, there are two categories – normal (human) and weird (radical).

Normal characters – correspond to people in our world. They have a variety of colors and traits that do not reach the limits of absurdity. They are interesting, human, and represent the audience on stage. They create a connection with the audience through logic or humanity.

Weird characters – these are characters with non-standard beliefs and an absurd view of the world. Often being radical, by telling the truth to one's face, they can get into absurd situations. In the role of a weird character, the improviser looks for extremity and madness. They create a connection with the audience through emotions and traits that we often suppress in life.

We will explore the reactions, essential traits, and points of view of these characters. After the workshop, you will better understand how you can be different than usual in these roles, surprising yourself and your partner.

In the workshop, we will recall and learn how to:

Discover interesting topics in context, grow them, and develop them.

Once an interesting idea is found, not wear it out and use it tastefully.

Organically distribute the roles of a weird and a normal person.

Change your character's perspective and tactics during the performance.

Find clarity in group performances by distributing into normal and weird characters.

Join situations or sketches created by colleagues, extend and strengthen them, rather than bringing chaos.

In long-form improvisation, performances are created without rules. Performers do not tell the audience about the structures of the performances or the methods of execution. The performer, together with the team, must create challenges for themselves, overcome them, and surprise the audience. A strong long-form improvisation performer is able to consciously manage their emotions, make interesting decisions, step outside their comfort zone, experiment, absorb information from their partner and the environment, and use personal and colleagues' experiences to create strong content.

The improvisation workshop will be led by Deividas Borodulinas – artistic director of the "Impro Kaunas" theater. He has performed in Oslo, Copenhagen, and Warsaw and has studied improvisation with improvisation masters Will Hines, Adam Cawley, Rob Norman, Jeff Michalski, Monika Smith, Alex Berg, Inbal Lori, and others. Deividas has graduated from UCB and WGIS "game of the scene" style improvisation schools. He likes to improvise strongly and constantly look for the limits of improvisation possibilities. Deividas performs in the troupes "Mini-Fridge" (international), POSH, and performs together with members of the "Impro Kaunas" theater at private events.
