Ingmar Bergman: "Only by feeling each other do we feel alive, even if we cause each other pain."
"It's nice that everything ended up halfway decent. It took me three months to write this opus and a good stretch of life to experience it all. While writing about those two people, delving into their trouble, I became attached to them in a way. They are quite contradictory, sometimes frighteningly childish, and sometimes sufficiently mature. They talked nonsense here, but they also said some wise things. They are frightened, satisfied, selfish, foolish, sweet, smart, self-sacrificing, devoted, angry, gentle, sentimental, unbearable, and worthy of love. All of this at once. So let's see how it all went."
"In my youth, death frightened me. Now I understand, life is just a light that will one day go out, and there is no need to make a fuss about it."
