The long-awaited British electronic music artist Gold Panda is finally coming to Vilnius!
Tadadadam, Gold Panda is coming to Vilnius!
The British electronic music creator, producer, and remixer will visit the capital this spring. We are in for the presentation of Gold Panda's new album, "Ton Up". Important details: April 24th at the iconic "Kablys" on Kauno Street, Vilnius. Live! This will be Gold Panda's first and long-awaited visit to Lithuania.
Local support will be announced in January. And it won't be just one name!
The real name of British electronic music producer Gold Panda is Derwin Dicker. You might also know him as DJ Jenifa, Grid Man, or Mole Map. Yes, it's the same person who loves playing with stage names. A character known from textbooks and long courted to come to Lithuania.
Throughout his career, Gold Panda has constantly pushed the boundaries of electronic music, blending sounds inspired by Japanese culture with influences from techno, house, and hip-hop of different eras. Gold Panda became famous for his distinctive sound based on second-hand vinyl samples. A kind of sonic mosaic. He has inspired many electronic music creators and colleagues. Thousands of millennials who are not indifferent to the power of electronica grew up with Gold Panda's music. Today, his sound bridges different generations.
Gold Panda's debut album, "Lucky Shiner", which changed many lives, received a lot of praise and good reviews. This release won The Guardian's Best Debut Album award. Fun fact: the album was recorded on a mobile phone. "One track features my grandmother's voice, another the gurgling of water pipes at my aunt's house. I grew up listening to hip-hop. My friends would look for original funk record samples – ones that no one had used yet, but I didn't have the money for that, so I would buy whatever I could find," says Gold Panda. Even an old synthesizer bought on eBay for a pound, which soon started to fail, became a great creative tool: Gold Panda turned its clicks into drum sounds.
For a long time, Gold Panda created subtle and melancholic electronica, but now he has taken on energetic house and created his first album dedicated to the dance floor, "Ton Up". As much as 140 BPM!
Gold Panda's first album, "Lucky Shiner", brought him great recognition. Three years later, with the release of "Half of Where You Live", Gold Panda turned towards slightly darker and more club-oriented rhythms. The 2016 album "Good Luck and Do Your Best" again revealed a brighter side of Gold Panda, inspired by travel and Japan. "The Work" (2022) brought back the melancholic sounds. It seems that Gold Panda plays ping-pong in his work – sometimes calmer, sometimes more intense. Remixes for others also hold an important place in Gold Panda's career.
True, Gold Panda had disappeared from the public eye for a while. Fatherhood and therapy slowed down his creative pace but enriched his life in other ways. He enjoys creative freedom more than ever before. It seems he is truly happy today.
If you like Bonobo, Tycho, Four Tet, or Caribou, who is a self-proclaimed Gold Panda fan, you will like Gold Panda. Mount Kimbie, Jon Hopkins, Shigeto, Floating Points, Boards of Canada, J. Dilla, Susumu Yokota, and many other music creators who emit a similar sound fit perfectly into this company.

New Gold Panda album "Ton Up"
Gold Panda's new album "Ton Up" features eight sharply polished tracks aimed straight at dancing bodies and two cozy interludes. The rhythms race against each other, and the music breathes with almost punk-rock energy. "Ton Up" is full of reckless spirit – as if a teenager were getting on a motorcycle for the first time. No forced search for maturity or attempts to redefine himself.
Warning! If you have trypophobia (fear of small holes), kinemortophobia (fear of zombies), or musophobia (fear of rats), do not let your eyes near the "Ton Up" album cover.
The playful and unpretentious album "Ton Up" was inspired by old-school hip-hop and even the early Daft Punk sound. Choppy rhythms, intense energy, a sense of unpredictability, fun chaos, and the cover. This album was released by the electronic music label "Studio Barnhus", and the release itself demands a lot of good sound. You can only imagine how Gold Panda will sound live at "Kablys" through the "Meyer Sound" system.
"Ton Up" is an unexpected and bold turn in Gold Panda's work, proving that even a mature creator can afford to completely let go of the reins," writes Pitchfork.
Among hundreds of events and concerts, you want to make it to everything. Gold Panda is worth your attention, time, and money. Knowing all the circumstances and the fact that this will be Gold Panda's first visit to Vilnius – you cannot miss it.
