"One of the most charismatic soloists you could ever see," as Seen and Heard International wrote about Ksenija Sidorova, will perform in Lithuania this autumn. The global accordion star will appear at a concert by the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, where she will perform the Concerto for Accordion and Orchestra, specially written for her this year by piano celebrity and composer Fazil Say (Lithuanian premiere). The concert with the accordion virtuoso will take place on November 6 at the LVSO Concert Hall in Vilnius.
Ksenija Sidorova is considered the most prominent ambassador of classical accordion in the world. Critics praise her for her "energy, style, poise and impeccable virtuosity" (ZealNYC), and describe her performances as "revealing new meanings in music" (The Telegraph). In every performance, the artist convincingly combines exceptional technical mastery with deep musical expression.
The famous Latvian virtuoso was born in Riga and began playing the accordion at the age of six, inspired by her grandmother. Ksenija Sidorova completed her studies at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music in London. Now, the accordion soloist performs with top-tier ensembles: she has performed with the Philharmonia Orchestra, the BBC Symphony, the Elbphilharmonie, the Orchestre National de France, the Munich Philharmonic, the Luxembourg Philharmonic, the Cincinnati and Atlanta Symphony Orchestras, and many other renowned ensembles. K. Sidorova collaborates with conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Marin Alsop, Thomas Hengelbrock, Vasily Petrenko, Andris Poga, Kirill Karabits, Christian Reif, Nil Venditti, and others.
The 2025–2026 season was also impressive for the artist, highlighted by concerts with Paavo Järvi and three of the ensembles he conducts – the Toronto Symphony, the Chicago Symphony, and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich. Last year, Sidorova also performed at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw, the Beethoven-Haus in Bonn, the Vienna Konzerthaus, and held recitals at the famous Carnegie Hall in New York.
Alongside her impressive solo performances, Ksenija Sidorova is valued as a wonderful chamber music performer. Her stage partners include mandolin virtuoso Avi Avital, violinist Nicola Benedetti, baritone Benjamin Appl, the Goldmund Quartet, guitarist Miloš Karadaglić, violinist Nemanja Radulović, clarinetist Andreas Ottensamer, trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth, tenor Juan Diego Flórez, and other acclaimed soloists.
The artist is a welcome guest at prestigious festivals: she has performed at Verbier, Rheingau, Mostly Mozart, MITO, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, and the MISA festival in Shanghai. This summer, Ksenija Sidorova is the portrait artist at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival – where she performs solo recitals, chamber music programs, and appears as a soloist with orchestras.
The accordion virtuoso has amassed a wide repertoire of music spanning more than three centuries – from transcriptions of works by Baroque genius Johann Sebastian Bach to opuses by 20th-century tango revolutionary Astor Piazzolla and prominent contemporary composers. Ksenija Sidorova actively promotes contemporary music and constantly expands the accordion repertoire by initiating new works. The list of pieces written specifically for her is also consistently growing: compositions have been dedicated to the artist by Tõnu Kõrvits, Arturs Maskats, Sergey Akhunov, Dobrinka Tabakova, and other creators.
The freshest premiere is the Concerto for Accordion and Orchestra, specially created for her by the famous pianist and composer Fazil Say, which had its world premiere just a few days ago, on July 4, at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Germany, and the Vilnius audience will hear it this autumn. Well-known to Lithuanian music lovers, Fazil Say turns in this work to an instrument that was long considered peripheral in the classical concert tradition, yet embodies extraordinary cultural diversity. In this Concerto, the accordion becomes a bridge between folk music, tango, klezmer music, and contemporary composition traditions, opening up a complex and multi-layered world of sound.
