October 16 and 17 are the final performances of the play REAL ESTATE DRAMA!
In the tragicomic play "REAL ESTATE DRAMA" by one of the most talented and active creators of Lithuanian dramaturgy, Gabrielė Labanauskaitė, the playwright observes, evaluates, and depicts with light, subtle humor, sharpness, and scrutiny the extent to which personal desires and dreams (of wanting to acquire one's own home) are governed by the stereotypes of an ideal life, which are exploited by real estate service providers. The play "REAL ESTATE DRAMA" reveals the manipulation of utopias and stereotypes by the real estate infrastructure, demonstrating the mechanism of capitalist traps in which the weaker, socially and financially less secure part of the population suffers the most. This social theme of the play became even more relevant during the pandemic period of recent years, with the growth of the real estate price bubble and people's desperation as they tried to protect their finances and recklessly invested in any real estate, while young people faced capitalist absurdity when trying to get a bank loan and purchase their own home. The play "REAL ESTATE DRAMA," not yet staged in Lithuania, has already won an international playwright award at the 2021 Heidelberg (Germany) theater festival "Heidelberger Stückemarkt." With the premiere of the play "REAL ESTATE DRAMA," the Vilnius city theater Atviras ratas begins its 17th creative season.
