On the festive day of July 6th, I invite you to hear an unheard (or less heard!) side of Vilnius and Lithuanian history – through the lens of women and the significance of their contribution to the history of Vilnius and Lithuania.
Although women have always made up half of the human population, their activities, merits, and influence have long gone unspoken. Even today, women are underrepresented in the history of Lithuania (and Vilnius). Therefore, this tour aims to contribute to the appreciation of women's contributions in history and the present.
Here are just a few hints about what you will hear during the tour: • What was the name of the first woman mentioned in the history of Lithuania? • What do the latest DNA tests reveal about the cause of Barbora Radvilaitė's death, and which building in Vilnius contains a coded reference to the discovery of her remains? • Why was there not a single woman on the Council of Lithuania in 1918? • Where in Vilnius was the first vegetarian restaurant located, and who did it belong to? • How is the National Philharmonic of Lithuania connected to women's rights? • Which famous woman, while imprisoned in Lukiškės Prison, boldly requested to go to the sauna?
The tour starts at the King Mindaugas monument. The tour ends at Lukiškės Prison.
The tour will be led by a licensed guide, Agnė Zakaravičiūtė, who holds a Master's degree in International Relations and Diplomacy and Linguistics.
By participating in the tour, you agree that you may be photographed. If you do not wish for this to happen, please inform the guide in advance.
The tour organizer reserves the right to cancel the tour or change its date due to unforeseen circumstances. In such a case, money for purchased tickets will be refunded or transferred to another tour.
