With this concert, we celebrate the 90th birthday of Maestro Juozas Domarkas, Honorary Conductor of the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra. One of the most prominent Lithuanian conductors, of particular importance to Lithuanian musical culture, and a highly experienced and influential conducting pedagogue, he served as the LNSO's artistic director and principal conductor for 51 years.
Highly regarded for the maturity and culture of his musical thinking and his vivid and emotional performance style, from the very beginning of his career, J. Domarkas was invited to conduct not only Lithuanian but also prominent European orchestras, and he led opera and ballet productions at the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Klaipėda State Musical Theatre.
To congratulate the maestro and commemorate his meaningful musical career, one of Lithuania's most renowned pianists, Mūza Rubackytė, will join us to perform Ferenc Liszt's Second Piano Concerto. The evening's program will also feature monumental works by F. Liszt's contemporaries – Richard Wagner and Antonín Dvořák.
