Feliksas Jakubauskas, who bore the name of the happy one (Latin: felix – happy, bringing good luck), dedicated the greater part of his life to textiles.
Through talent, diligence, and loyalty to weaving, F. Jakubauskas earned the recognition of the textile artist community, held nearly thirty solo exhibitions, participated in more than two hundred group exhibitions in Lithuania and abroad, and his work was recognized with significant international awards in Łódź, Pittsburgh, Cheongju, Beijing, Budapest, and other international competitions. The artist was also invited to serve on selection committees and expert groups for international exhibitions.
Well-acquainted with the experiments of contemporary textile art, F. Jakubauskas did not succumb to the allure of new forms and remained faithful to classical tapestry weaving, yet he constantly expanded its possibilities. He conceptually transformed traditional technique, gave it a contemporary feel, and supplemented it with poetry and the vibrant tradition of Lithuanian village weaving. Thus, a harmonious balance between tradition and modernity was formed in his work.
The exhibition, which spans more than four decades of the artist's work, is dominated by tapestries created in the last decades, revealing the author's artistic individuality and virtuoso technique. The creative process is also evidenced by the workshop fragments exhibited in the exhibition – moments of weaving, frozen in time just as the master himself saw them.
